Adolescent Program

The Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program at Drexel Counseling Services, Inc. is comprehensive and specifically designed with the teen population in mind.  Our clinical team takes a holistic approach to treating each individual. Our Treatment Plan goals are expressed in the words of the client, which indicate that each client was informed of their choice. DCS’ treatment approach reflects consideration for the client’s sex, race, culture, and religion. The overall goal of our person-centered plan is to keep the focus on fostering healing, growth and change for each teen.

Treatment Plan goals and objectives are based on the clients:

  1. Strengths
  2. Needs
  3. Abilities
  4. Preferences
  1. Simple/Specific/Straightforward
  2. Measurable
  3. Achievable/Action-oriented
  4. Reasonable
  5. Target Date

Group counseling sessions are used as our primary treatment tool. Group therapy covers many relevant topics including:..

Use, abuse, dependence
Peer pressure
Relapse prevention
Gateway drugs
Refusal skills
Family roles
Communication skills
Problem solving skills
High-risk situations
Consequences of drug use
Coping skills

The group sessions are more than clinically relevant but are punctuated with fun filled role-plays. Teen dating habits/violence prevention is also a component of the treatment program at DSC.

Family Education and counseling groups are available to help parents help their teens.

Referrals are widely used to connect our adolescents with community resources, and other services as identified and needed.
